Because “peaceful exploration” makes for a boring MMORPG, the Federation and the Klingon Empire are at war again. Star Trek: Online is set 30 years after the end of Star Trek: Nemesis, and takes place mostly in the “prime” universe of the TV shows. This time, I’ll be tackling the game by myself mostly by myself, although there will be plenty of opportunity for thread and in-game participation. There, I was joined by many other LPers who played through the various other stories. You might remember me from the last time I bit off more than I could chew by LPing an MMO with Star Wars: The Old Republic. The game has changed a lot, and I think the world is ready for me to inflict my fanfic of Star Trek fanfic on it another LP of Star Trek: Online. Since then, though, there have been at least 3 major expansions, and some of the earlier missions have been re-done with varying degrees of improvement.
The game got grindier and grindier, but enough new features, story, and quality of life were added to keep it chugging along.Īlso, there was already an LP of this game! It was done by Poptarts Ninja back in 2010, and it was great.
It was released in 2010 and went Free to Play two years later after being sold by the original publisher, Atari, to a Chinese MMO publisher. Quite frankly, I believe that the only thing that has prevented the game from going belly-up is the affection for the franchise, which has allowed it to survive several things that should have killed it.
